AHS sophomore Emma McLaughlin has been selected as a State Finalist in the 10-12 category of the "Doodle 4 Google" contest.  She was selected out of 114,000 overal entries.  Her entry is titled "A Googleberg Print" and illustrates images from the Gutenberg press era.  She is headed to New York to participate in the finals this Friday.  A WOUB news report about her is available on YouTube.

United Appeal is pleased to release the resource information sheet detailing this summer's feeding sites and programs for youths. Additionally, we present information on continuing feeding programs for older adults and all age groups.
Additional and up-to-date information on available resources may be acquired by calling 2-1-1 or visiting the webpage at www.211athenscounty.org.
Final Exam Schedule Reminder:  The published exam schedule in the student handbook is incorrect.  Final exams will begin Friday, May 18 with a regular day periods 1-7, no 8th period.  Ninth period exam will be administered from 12:52-2:35.  Regular exam days of two exams each day will start Monday, May 21 with periods 1 and 2, Tuesday, May 22 with periods 3 and 4, Wednesday, May 23 periods 5/6/7 and 8. Thursday May 24 will be make-up exam day and last day for students.  Exams will be given 7:45-9:15 and 9:30-11:00 each day.  See the calendar for the exact schedule.  Further exam rules will be posted later.
2012-2013 Calendar Revised due to conflicts with required dates for OGT testing.  Spring Break has been moved to later in March and no longer coincides with the Ohio U. calendar.  A few other days (start/end)have been shifted.  The revised calendar for the 2012-2013 school year may be found here.

The Athens High School Science Olympiad Team qualified for the State Science Olympiad with their 2nd place finish at the Regional Tournament held at Marietta College on Saturday, March 10.
Individual winners are these:
1st Place Microbe Mission– Kevin Hwang
1st Place Thermodynamics – Jackson Morris and Yonry Zhu
1st Place Technical Problem Solving – Alane Suhr and Meelim Lee
1st Place Experimental Design – Yonry Zhu, Serena Zhu, and Kevin Hwang
2nd Place Chemistry Lab – Kevin Hwang and Zack Williams
2nd Place Anatomy & Physiology – Abby Pomento and Becca Chalfant
2nd Place Fermi Questions – Meelim Lee and Jackson Morris
3rd Place Write It Do It – Alane Suhr and Meelim Lee
3rd Place Remote Sensing – Katie Wight and Anne Li

Congratulations to the AHS Math students who participated in the Ohio Council of Teachers of Mathematics (OCTM)Tournament.  Athens placed first in Level 3 with a score of 115.  Way to go Math Bulldogs.
Congratulations to Spanish Teacher Sharon Dunfee who has been selected as the Leona Glenn Outstanding Foreign Language Teacher of the Year by the Ohio Foreign Language Association.

Athens High teachers Lynn Stevens, Shiow Chang, Judy Walker-Yeager, and Fitz Read receive monthly training afterschool at a voluntary professional development session called Getting to Know PD 360.

Graduation Time Change:  Please note that the start time for the AHS graduation ceremony on Saturday May 26 has been changed to 11:00 AM.
AHS Flag:  You may have noticed a newly designed AHS flag flying in front of the school and at Rutter Field/Scott Riggs and Family Stadium.  For a brief history of the school crest found on the flag and the new design, click here.
Congratulations to AHS Baseball and Softball TVC Champs.
Congratulations to AHS Winter Sports for great seasons!  Boys Basketball for reaching the District tourney at the Convo, wrestlers who qualified for the State tourney.
Congratulations to AHS Fall Sports for great seasons!  Girls Cross Country placed 10th in the State Championship, Girls Volleyball advanced to the Regional Tournament and Football made their first ever appearance in the state playoffs by winning outright, the TVC Championship. Boys Soccer and Cross Country, Meelim Lee (Girls Tennis) and Varsity Golf went to Sectionals.
Congratulations to guidance counselor Suzanne Powell for being nominated for the University of Chicago's Outstanding Educator Award.  Entering first year students at U of C are asked to nominate an educator who has changed them, challenged them or helped them along the path toward intellectual growth.
