About Mr. Dearing

I was born and raised in Athens, Ohio.  While attending Athens High School, I was very active in student government and athletics.  I served as an officer for my class and for student council.  I participated in football, wrestling, and I threw shotput and discus for the track team.  After graduating in 2001 from AHS (Go Bulldogs!), I attended Ohio University's Honors Tutorial College.  While at Ohio University, I majored in History.  I served as president of the Honors College Advisory Council.  I also held the position of captain on the Ohio University Varsity Cheerleading Team (Go Bobcats!).  I graduated in 2006 and have been teaching ever since!  I started at Wellston High School and am now in my fifth year at Athens High School.  I just recently completed my Master's in Education Administration while enrolled in Ohio University's Principal's Preparation Program.

Please take special note of our school's "Excessive Absence Policy"

In accordance with a new “Excessive Absence Policy” at Athens High School, final grades will be affected by poor attendance.  After a student’s 8th absence in any scheduled class (on a per period basis, NOT by daily attendance), the student’s grade will drop 1% for each additional absence in that class.  In-school suspension and the assignment to the Alternative school will count as absences and be subject to this penalty.  The only exceptions to having a student’s grade reduced after the 8th day of absence is if the student has a medical excuse submitted immediately upon his/her return to school or unless the absence is an Athens High School field trip.
